Immunofluorescence microscopy was used to stain for bladder epithelial differentiation markers like keratin 20 (white) and Trp63 (red). We found that mice with a history of chronic bladder infection had aberrant epithelial differentiation and bladder mucosal remodeling that persisted after antibiotic treatment and increased their susceptibility to recurrent infections.
