Migrants and refugees travel within and between countries for many different reasons, including conflict, persecution or lack of economic opportunity. Among these reasons may be threats to a person’s health and wellbeing, and further risks can arise for often vulnerable people in transit, or indeed in a destination country. At the World Health Assembly in May, 2019 agreement was reached on a global action plan comprising principles and priorities in protecting and promoting the health of refugees and migrants.
In an Editorial, Guest Editors Paul Spiegel, Kolitha Wickramage and Terry McGovern discuss the rationale for and content of PLOS Medicine’s Special Issue on Refugee and Migrant Health.
