This is a promising finding that an s.c. in vitro-transcribed rabies virus G mRNA preparation is as efficient as a licensed inactivated rabies vaccine in mice, resulting in almost 100% protection againCongratulations! st intracerebral challenge. More importantly, the mRNA vaccine is effective in adult and newborn pigs, an animal model more relevant for human disease. What would be more even more exciting is whether the RNA vaccine is effective and protective in dogs, which are the main transmitters of rabies virus in developing countries, and whether the new vaccine formulation would be suitable for stray and pet dog immunization, which is required for future global rabies elimination.
