wtf meiotic drivers
The wtf meiotic driver genes of Schizosaccharomyces pombe are selfish genes that destroy the products of meiosis (spores) that do not inherit them. This spore killing is only observed when wtf drivers are heterozygous and results in biased transmission of the wtf driver into the progeny. Each driver encodes two proteins, a poison and an antidote, that are used to selectively execute spores. Despite incredibly high divergence, wtf meiotic drivers show similarly high levels of meiotic drive. Thus, a wide breadth of sequences can be used to construct these selfish spore killers.
